CARA

2015-2018

CARA (College Access: Research & Action) narrows the college access gap in under-resourced district high schools by training and empowering staff, peers, and recent graduates to support first-generation students in navigating the college process.

CARA delivers a tailored mix of college access supports including a field-tested curriculum, high-dosage training for student-leaders, and coaching for teachers. Their engagement targets every student (not just high-performers) and is priced to fit within the high school’s limited budget.

Arbor Rising partnered with the CARA management team on a number of key deliverables, including:

  • Theory of Change — clarifying the population served, type of intervention, and target outcomes

  • Communication Materials — to convey CARA’s unique value proposition to prospective funding partners

  • Data Analysis — statistical evaluation of historical outcomes to refine programming and inform marketing efforts

  • Financial Model — to monitor fundraising progress, create multiyear budget projections, and track key programmatic outcomes

  • Performance Management System – establishing roles, goals, and accountability targets for staff
