Literacy Academy Collective

2024 - Present

Literacy Academy Collective is building and supporting a network of New York City public schools designed for students with dyslexia, language-based learning disabilities, and other struggling readers.

Access to literacy is one of the most pressing Civil Rights issues in New York City. Literacy Academy Collective (LAC) brings culturally relevant, structured literacy to students at the intersection of race, poverty, and disability. Through its schools, Summer Academy, and in-school and after-school programs, LAC is breaking the cycle of illiteracy for students with dyslexia, language-based learning disabilities, and other struggling readers.

Arbor Rising is partnering with Literacy Academy Collective on a number of key deliverables, including:

  • Theory of change — clarifying the population served, scope of intervention, progress milestones and target long-term outcomes

  • School support model codification — defining the organization’s core services for its schools to guide expansion and ensure fidelity and impact across sites

“The Theory of Change we created with Arbor Rising will be an anchor document as we make strategic choices in the coming year. Now, as LAC grows into a network of schools, we're looking forward to working with AR at a more granular level to codify our model of school support.”
